Results: Geodashing Game 98

"We left the DP and had a wonderful dinner at Spiro’s where the wives
found each other to be kindred spirits and talked about the
frustrations of living with geodashing husbands. It was great fun and
we left wishing them happy travels while in Missouri."

"I have to boast about our new 2010 Prius, which by the way, I
performed the buying transaction using the 'Cash for Clunkers'
program. What can I say about the DP that Douq hasn't already said.
Not very exciting, just another farm field. But it was fun to try out
the new car on a geodash. In contrast to Douq, I say that as long as
we can get 49.2 mpg on a trip, the Prius is a great dashmobile."

"The zero point is in a brown field whose intended (but clearly
unsuccessful) crop my Saskatchewan-born mother couldn't identify. In
the fields immediately to the north and south on the same side of the
road was durum wheat. Across the road, was a narrow band of what my
mother somewhat tentatively identified as potatoes. On the way back,
we saw some oats, lots of wheatfields (one which had flax growing
within it - it looked like there were some leftover seeds in the field
from last year), sunflowers growing alongside the road and one field
of pitifully short canola (unless it was mustard - my mother says that
there's a kind of mustard that's about the same color that used to be
grown around here - she doesn't know if they still do or not)."

==================================

Game 98 of Geodashing was won by team "GeoTerriers," their fourth win
in a row. Honorable mentions go to teams "Llama League" and (tied for
third) "Home for the Itinerant" and "Team GPS."

Individual honors go to Jack Frickey, with honorable mentions to
Dashing Dog Mac and (tied for third) BOB and Madam Dash.

The game saw 77 dashpoint hunts in eight countries (Australia, the US,
Estonia, the UK, Canada, Poland, Brazil and Germany).

==================================

A sampling of waypoints visited by Geodashing players this month:

in woods in Estonia near an old stone fence, covered with moss and
heightened with fishing net between wooden sticks

along a gravel track through rocky paddocks in Victoria, Australia, in
a small group of trees and near a large flock of screeching galahs and
cockatoos

among the mansions of Atherton, California, so far back from the road
and sheltered by massive oaks that they are hard to see ("It was white
and had pillars.")

in a vacant lot along the Las Vegas Strip near the Silver Nugget
Casino

in the far back corner of the schoolyard of Centerville Elementary
School in Pennsylvania

on the playground of Harvest Church west of Mechanicsburg,
Pennsylvania

in Nashville, in an empty lot adjacent to the Cumberland River with LP
Field (home of the Titans) in the background

in Adelanto, California, marked by a four foot bar of rebar near the
home of the minor league baseball High Desert Mavericks

in Kentucky at the end of a steep gravel two-tire path that turns to
grass before a small family plot of headstones

in lodgepole pine forest common to the dry east side of the state of
Oregon

on a bridge over the Dortmund-Ems-Channel in Germany, where a ship was
navigating the sluice's 8-meter height difference

in Victoria, Australia, near a dark brick farmhouse with a pot-holed
and muddy driveway and quite a few vehicles, only some of which were
in working order

in the woods along a rural road in Missouri, past a few pricker bushes
and a burned out rubbish heap with a couple of appliances, tires and
assorted other items

in a six story brick apartment building in Brooklyn, just blocks
from Coney Island

and somewhere in Poland (readers are left eager for more when players
don't give detailed descriptions of their hunts)

==================================

Thanks to all the Geodashing players, whose many great reports are
quoted here, not always with proper attribution. Complete, original
reports are available on the Web site.

==================================

About Geodashing: Geodashing is a game in which players use GPS
receivers on a playing field that covers the entire planet. The
waypoints, or dashpoints, to be reached are randomly selected. The win
goes to who can get to the most dashpoints; that is, if you can get to
them at all! Each game has a new set of dashpoints making each game
different and unpredictable. For more information and to play, visit
http://GPSgames.org .
